TransLink seeking public input for Bus Rapid Transit Program
Engagement launches on Bus Rapid Transit customer priorities
Conceptual illustration of BRT in Metro Vancouver. Final design subject to change.

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. – TransLink is inviting the public to share their priorities for Metro Vancouver’s first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service. This engagement will ensure customer feedback is considered as part of ongoing BRT planning.
Through the Access for Everyone plan, TransLink has identified up to nine corridors for BRT implementation over the next decade, with the first three rapid transit corridors announced in late 2023. BRT routes will keep customers moving quickly by operating with high frequencies in dedicated lanes and with transit signal priority at intersections. They will use high-capacity buses with stations that provide customers with weather protection, and efficient boarding.
BRT is cost-effective to build because it can be implemented at street level while optimizing existing infrastructure. Another key advantage of BRT is that it can often be planned, constructed, and deployed in significantly less time compared to rail alternatives. This means the benefits of rapid transit can be experienced by more people across the region, sooner.
Members of the public can participate in the survey here. Until the end of the summer, TransLink is engaging participants on:
- Understanding of BRT service
- Which features and amenities are most important for a BRT system
- Likelihood of using BRT routes when operational
TransLink will continue working with local municipalities to analyze the prioritized corridors, develop business cases, and acquire project funding through future updates to the Investment Plan.
