TransLink announces Winter Service Changes
New East Fraser Heights route will connect customers to R1 RapidBus
SURREY, BC – TransLink is announcing a new bus route that will serve northeast Surrey in the new year, as part of upcoming service changes. Route 338 will connect the growing residential neighbourhood of East Fraser Heights with other regional transit and local destinations.
The new route will be in service starting on January 6, 2025, when Winter Service Changes take effect.
Route 338 Guildford/East Fraser Heights service details:
- 30-minute frequency Community Shuttle route connecting to R1 RapidBus
- Weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Sundays/Holidays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“As municipalities continue to grow throughout the region, our customers in Surrey have been asking for improved access to transit in East Fraser Heights,” says TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “This new bus route builds on the increased investment we’ve been making in Surrey to enable a thriving community to choose safe, reliable, and sustainable travel options.”
The City of Surrey has identified East Fraser Heights as a priority area for transit growth and it was proposed during TransLink’s 2019 Transit Network Review. The new route is being funded by the 2024 Investment Plan, which is a short-term funding plan to manage overcrowding through the next twelve months.
“Surrey has rebounded faster than any other city, not only in BC, but all of North America when it comes to ridership,” says Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. “The introduction of Route 338 will bring much-needed bus service to East Fraser Heights. I would like to thank TransLink for recognizing the need for new transit in Surrey and I hope to see even more transit options become available for the fastest growing city in the region.”
TransLink’s upcoming seasonal changes will also provide more service on 28 bus routes around the region.
Winter Service Changes include:
- Slight service increases on 14 bus routes to address overcrowding.
- Extended operating hours on 10 routes in Surrey and Langley.
- Some trip extensions on Routes 9 and 130.
Expanding and adding more transit service — like Route 338 — in the future will be possible by funding the Access for Everyone Plan. The plan’s targets include more than doubling 2022 bus service levels and adding up to nine new traffic-separated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines across Metro Vancouver.
