Commercial–Broadway SkyTrain Station escalators being replaced
Project expected to be completed in fall 2025
VANCOUVER, BC – TransLink is replacing four aging escalators at Commercial–Broadway SkyTrain Station. The escalators have been operational for over 20 years and their replacement is necessary to ensure long-term reliability for customers.
Starting December 18, replacement work will begin on the two escalators connecting the concourse level to the Millennium Line platform. In fall 2024, another two escalators connecting to the Expo Line platforms will also be replaced.
The entire project is expected to be completed in fall 2025. Alternate access to all platforms will be available via stairwells and elevators.
As part of the project, two fare gates at the East Broadway Avenue station entrance — near the stairwell and elevator to the Expo Line platforms — have been removed from service for approximately one year. During this time, additional fare gates nearby will continue providing station access.
The new escalators will be more durable and easier to maintain. They will also have a variable speed option for power-saving and improved accessibility for maintenance to minimize downtime.
SkyTrain service will not be impacted during the project. Customers may experience some crowding and congestion while the work is in progress. Staff will provide extra assistance and directional signage will indicate alternate access. Customers can also receive in-person information at the SkyTrain Assistance Counter near the Millennium Line platforms.
The $10.5 million project is part of the Millennium Line Escalator Replacement Project and is funded through the TransLink Capital Program.
