Vancouver, BC — TransLink will open a fully upgraded stationhouse on the west side of Joyce–Collingwood Station tomorrow. The sleek structure is part of the second phase of station upgrades which started construction last year.

"We’d like to thank our customers for their patience, I’m sure they’ll find these important improvements well worth the wait,” says TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond. “Joyce–Collingwood commuters will benefit from more station capacity, greater accessibility, and a better overall experience at one of our busiest transit hubs."

The station now features

• A new, upgraded elevator and escalator to improve passenger access
• New customer information signs, including exterior signs that provide real-time service information
• Improved lighting, an extended roof, and new platform tiling
• A new HandyDART bus shelter
• Improved integration of pedestrian, bicycle, bus, and SkyTrain transportation modes
• Relocated BC parkway path to provide separation for cyclists and pedestrians improving safety
• Design features such as the use of glass partitions to support crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) principles
• New bus exchanges to accommodate future service improvements, including a planned B-Line from Joyce–Collingwood Station to UBC
• Universally accessible fare gates.

"Making public transportation more accessible, convenient and enjoyable is essential to encouraging more people to leave their cars at home and reducing greenhouse gas emissions caused by gridlock."

Wrapping around the new stationhouse is 'Carpeting' by Renée Van Halm, a contemporary mosaic of brightly coloured geometric panels covering the pavement and walls. This latest artwork complements ‘Off Centre’, her award-winning hand-painted piece which is prominently featured in the east stationhouse.

"The Joyce–Collingwood Skytrain Station is an important hub in our community. As a proud Collingwood resident, I am thrilled to see that the upgrades will greatly help reduce congestion, air pollution, and improve the overall experience of people in this community who rely on transit—including better accessibility and improved pedestrian safety, said Adrian Dix, MLA for Vancouver-Kingsway.

This second phase of Joyce–Collingwood Station upgrades is part of the $59 million Rapid Transit Stations and Facilities Project being delivered under the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund, which is funded 50 percent by the Government of Canada, 33 percent by the Province of British Columbia and 17 percent by TransLink. They complement upgrades to the east stationhouse completed in 2017 and funded by the same three partners under the Building Canada Fund.

The public will have access to both stationhouses at Joyce–Collingwood Station starting tomorrow. The bus loop around the new west stationhouse will open on June 24, 2019, to coincide with our upcoming summer service changes.
