Commuter crunch week arrives Tuesday
TransLink offers a few simple tips to ease the post-Labour Day commute
August 30, 2018
NEW WESTMINSTER, BC — Early September is one of the busiest times of year on Metro Vancouver roads, and transit is no exception. Buses, trains and SeaBus will be more crowded than usual as people return to work and school following the summer holidays.
As a result, there may be delays on some routes during particularly peak periods. TransLink wants to ensure our customers’ experience on transit is a positive one.
A few tips will help you get where you need to go, on time.
- Give yourself extra time. There may be delays due to the sheer number of people commuting to school and work. Consider picking an earlier departure time to avoid the stress of slow travel on busy roads or a missed connection.
- Use Trip Planner. Double check your times and routes. We’re adding 30,000 hours of new service on the roads in September, and shifting service back to post-secondary institutions. This means some schedules will change.
- Remember your transit etiquette. People in Metro Vancouver are generally considerate of their fellow travellers. Here are some ways to ensure everyone has a comfortable ride:
- Take off backpacks.
- Move to the back of the bus. Bus operators can’t always see if there is space left at the back.
- Move away from the doors on SkyTrain to make it easier for people getting on/off.
