Hiring Processes for CMBC Transit Operator

The application process in 10 steps

Please note this process can take up to 3 months.

Step 1 - Apply

  • Create a profile and submit your application.

  • After applying, you will receive an automated confirmation email. If you do not receive one, please check your spam or junk folders.

  • You will receive a Transit Operator Screening Questionnaire to complete within 48 hours.

  • If you are shortlisted, we will contact you to move forward to the next stage of the process.

Step 2 - Join an optional virtual information session

  • Attend a virtual information session to learn more about the role.

Step 3 - Complete the Pre-Employment Written Assessment

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take a pre-employment written assessment. Additionally, candidates must provide a copy of their commercial driving record, claims history record and any out-of-country or province documents (if it falls within their 5 recent years of driving history) at the pre-employment written assessment.

Step 4 - Interview

  • Candidates who pass the pre-employment written assessment will be invited for an in-person interview. This interview will be 45 minutes in length.

Step 5 - Learners Permit

  • If you pass the interview, a Class 2 or Class 4 BC Commercial learner’s permit with air brake endorsement (depending on the role – Conventional Operator or Community Shuttle Operator) is required. Cost $15 (not covered by employer).

Step 6 - Reference check

  • We will request for employment references from your direct supervisors or managers from the past 3 years of your employment.

Step 7 - Police Information Check

  • Complete a Police Information Check including a vulnerable sector search, at your local police station. Costs can range from $70 to $100 (not covered by employer). Please wait for directions from Talent Acquisition before proceeding with this step.

Step 8 - Pre-placement health assessment

  • Candidates must undergo a pre-placement medical examination to ensure they are fit to perform in a safety sensitive position.

Step 9- Final Review ICBC Documents

  • Candidates must provide the final copies of their ICBC documents.

Step 10 - Offer of Employment

  • An offer of employment will be extended to you once you successfully complete all stages of the recruitment process.
